This is a wonderful natural processed coffee full of personality from Finca Fatima out of Coatepec, Veracruz. A couple of things about this coffee particularly stand out to me:

  • Finca Fatima has been owned by brother-sister duo Givette and Ernesto since about the 70’s, and seemingly has an existing history of growing prior to their ownership.

  • Veracruz is one of the first places in Mexico that arabica was introduced dating back to around the 1700’s.

This coffee coming from this particular farm—which notably has won COE Mexico—provides a really unique expression of what Mexico’s terroir has to offer.

I absolutely love this coffee’s aromatics (I’ve had a bag of this open on my desk mostly to smell) and it is pretty versatile: Treat it delicately and you get rewarded with some beautiful florals and a reminder of those extra juicy late season strawberries—Treat it with a little more heat and you still get some berry sweetness, but the plums and chocolate really get to shine here. Both ways it maintains a nice hefty body that really allows all its flirtatious traits to stick around for a while! Its kinda like hanging out on the couch with your crush but you’re not nervous—nice!
